The best runners in the state converged on Belfast on Saturday for the State High School cross-country championships. Boothbay boys were crowned State Class C runner-ups, Medomak girls placed 11th, and Medomak boys 12th in State Class B.
Lincoln Academy’s Nikki Leeman ran to a 25th place finish in State Class B in a time of 20:55. Cape Elizabeth won the State title overwhelmingly. Maranacook’s Abby Mace was the individual winner in 18:48.
The Lady Panthers finished next to last with 255, beating out Leavitt. Gwen Moiles led Medomak placing 34th in 21:13. Kiana Ocean was 47th in 21:35; Alyssa Griggs 65th in 22:21; Erika Knutson 68th in 22:32; Megan Wyllie 77th in 22:52; Jordan Hopkins 81st in 23:04 and Chelsea Wochomurka 84th in 23:26.
Boys’ results
Medomak placed 12th out of 15 teams with 300 points. Greely won the State Class B championship with 38 points. Alex Moser of York was the individual champion in 16:04. Patrick O’Donnell led the Panthers taking 21st in 17:34. Joshua Anderson placed 57th in 18:28; Alex Goldrup 63rd in 18:37; Caleb Philbrook 88th in 19:26; Stefan Nicholls 96th in 19:49; Joe Murphy 97th in 19:59; and Quinton Vannah 103rd in 20:40.
Wiscasset High School runner Brad Whitaker placed 35th in 18:45 in the State Class C meet. Monmouth edged Boothbay 72-83 to win the State Class C title. Wade Davis of Hall-Dale was the Class C individual winner in 16:40. Chase Brown ran to a 9th place finish for Boothbay in 17:52; Zach Campbell placed 14th in 18:02; Nate Schwehm 15th in 18:02; Matt Forgues 26th in 18:26; Wendall Thayer 38th in 18:51; Tom Brown 43rd in 19:10; and Ben Gottlieb 75th in 20:14.
