Eighth seed Wells jumped out to an 11-0 lead over ninth seed Lincoln Academy girls in West Class B preliminary action in Wells Feb. 11, and held on for a 44-36 win.
Lincoln pulled within five in the third and again in the fourth. “We couldn’t hit that shot we needed to get closer. Sarah Alley and Stephanie Winchenbach had a couple of three’s that rimmed out, had they gone in, it could have been different,” coach Sam Farrell said. The Eagles had a good year, finishing with a 12-6 record. “If we had won, it might have been a great year,” Farrell said.
“Seniors Stephanie Winchenbach and Becca Rice did everything in their power to will us to win. Rice carried us, she was a human press breaker,” Farrell said.
Trailing 11-0, Lincoln finished the first quarter with a 7-3 run to pull within seven, 14-7 at the break. The Lady Eagles trailed 23-13 at the half and 32- 27 at the end of three.
