Wiscasset and Boothbay girls’ basketball teams battled each other every step of the way in an exciting Mt. Valley Conference match-up Monday night in Wiscasset.
Boothbay led 18-10 at the quarter and 25-14 at the half, before Wiscasset shut them out in the 3rd quarter 16-0 to take a 30-25 lead at the end of three. The Lady Seahawks rallied in the final stanza for a 45-38 win.
Boothbay opened the 4th quarter with a 14-4 run to take a five-point lead with two minutes remaining. Lindsey Applebee went inside for two and connected at the line for a three-point play to cut the lead to two. Boothbay made six of eight foul shots in the final minute and a half to seal the win. Wiscasset had 34 turnovers in the loss, including nine in the 4th quarter.
Wiscasset senior Applebee scored a career high 20 points, and registered a double double with 18 rebounds, Ali Johnson added 4 (3R), Ali Preble 4 (3R,2S), Maryellen True 4 (10R,2S), Heather McRae 2 (6R,2B,1S,3A), Amanda Dowling 2 (7R,2S) and Melissa Tilas 2.
Scoring for Boothbay were Kristen Sibley 12 (2R,9S), Mary Fuller 10, Eleana Peters 7, Brandie McFetridge 6 (7R,2S), Lindsey Marden 6 (6R,4S), and Meryl Jones 4 (4R).
Wiscasset held a 52-31 advantage in rebounding.
