Wiscasset’s baseball team defeated Georges Valley 8-2 in make-up action on April 29 to win their first game of the season. Starter Jay Lamoureux collected the win (5 2/3I, 3H, 9K,9B) and Cody Verrill (1 1/3I, 2H, 1K,1B) got the save. Both pitchers hit two run homeruns in the win. Alec Young took the loss for the Bucs.
The Buccaneers took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st, but it was short lived as Wiscasset plated two in the top of the 2nd on a Lamoureux two run blast scoring Segovia, who reached on a single.
They added a run in the 3rd when Chris Brawn reached on an error and scored on a Mason Brewer double; and one in the 4th when Jason Weatherbee walked, advanced on a passed ball and scored on an Ashton Benn single.
Wiscasset broke the game open with four runs in the 5th. Justin Caron walked and scored on a Brewer double, Segovia hit an RBI single, and Verrill a two run homerun.
Hitting for Wiscasset were Brewer with two doubles (2RBI), Segovia two singles, and Verrill and Lamoureux a homerun each. Brandon Knight led Georges Valley with two hits.
Brewer sacrificed in Brawn in the 1st inning to give the Redskins the lead. Wiscasset added three runs in the 2nd. Lamoureux and Verrill walked, moved over on a Zach Pickering sacrifice and scored on a Weatherbee three run homerun. They added a run in the 3rd when Caron doubled and scored on a Brewer single; and a run in the 6th when Pickering singled home Verrill.
Hitting for Wiscasset were Brewer with two singles, Weatherbee a homerun, and Brawn, Verrill, Pickering and Benn a single each. Hitting for St. Doms were Curtis with two, J. Bryant a two run double in the 3rd, and Parker and Johnson a single each.
Weatherbee got the start and went five innings (3K,5B,4H,1HP), and Verrill took the loss (2I,3H).
Wiscasset took a 1-0 lead in the 1st when Brewer drove in Brawn on a fielder’s choice. Winthrop tied the score in the bottom of the inning then scored three in the 2nd to take a 4-1 lead.
Wiscasset scored two in the 3rd to pull within one. Benn and Brawn singled. Benn came home on a passed ball and Brawn on a Caron fielder’s choice. They took the lead with a two run 4th inning. Verrill singled, Pickering walked and both scored on a Brawn single. The Redskins added a run in the 6th to lead 6-4. Benn walked, stole second and scored on an error put in play by Caron.
Winthrop tied the game in the bottom of the 6th.
