Winthrop 5 – Wiscasset 2
Winthrop scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings to beat Wiscasset 5-2 on May 14. Wiscasset jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third inning. Winthrop scored one in the fourth and two in the fifth on a Drew Straton home run, and two in the sixth.
Daren Wood reached on a fielder’s choice, and Brycson Grover walked to set up a Chandler Longfellow RBI single, and Nate Howard RBI error.
Hitting for Wiscasset were Longfellow with a double and single, and Grant Hefler, Tyler Bailey, Dylan McMahon, and Cas Carr a single each. Hitting for Winthrop were Drew Straton with a home run, Cabot Lancaster a double and Mario Meaci, Ben Allen, Dakota Carter, and Bennett Brooks a single each.
Daren Wood took the loss for Wiscasset.
Monmouth 7 – Wiscasset 2
Monmouth defeated Wiscasset baseball 7-2 in the rain on Monday. The game was called early when the home plate area turned into a mud pit.
“With only nine guys left to finish the season, and no subs, I couldn’t take a chance on one getting injured,” coach Mike Bowles said of the mutual decision to end the game.
The Mustangs took a 3-0 lead after two innings. Wiscasset rallied for two runs in the third to pull within one. Conlon Ranta singled and Grant Hefler walked and both scored on a Daren Wood single. Monmouth took advantage of pouring rain in the fourth to score four runs.
Hitting for Wiscasset were Wood and Ranta with a single each. Hitting for Monmouth were Jariah Caissie a double and two singles, Hunter Richardson two singles, Phil Rowe a triple, Brandon Goff a double, and Kyle Fletcher and Alec Curtis a single each.
Chandler Longfellow took the loss in five innings (8H,4K,3B). Daren Wood pitched in relief.
Dirigo 11 – Wiscasset 1
Kaine Hutchins was on the mound for Dirigo in their 11-1 win over Wiscasset. Tyler Bailey took the loss.
Wiscasset spoiled the shutout with a run in the fifth, scored by Chandler Longfellow who tripled and scored when Bailey reached on an error.
Hitting for Wiscasset were Longfellow with a triple, and Grand and Daren Wood a single each. Hitting for Dirigo was Gavin Arsenault with two triples and a single, Hutchins three singles, Mitch Kabesh a triple, Brian Vallemick two singles, and Nick Hall one.
