Wiscasset boys’ basketball team crushed Hall-Dale 70-45 in their Mt.Valley Conference home opener Friday night.
“We had a rough first half with 25 turnovers, Jordan Jones and Ashton Benn handled the ball well in the second half, and Mason Brewer played a great overall game,” said Wiscasset coach Wayne Benjamin.
The Redskins went on a 28-9 tear in the third period to put the game out of reach for the Bulldogs. Wiscasset led 18-12, 28-22 and 56-31 at the quarter breaks.
Scoring for Wiscasset were Benn 16 (4A,4R), Jones 16, Brewer 9 (7A,15R), Cory Hodgdon 8, Tyler Sonia 6, Devin Grover 6, Dan Murphy 4, Jason Weatherbee 3 and Austin Haskell 2. Scoring for Hall-Dale were Sam Shepherd 11, Brad Shepherd 7, Tyler French 6, Austin Bechard 4, Harry Chung 4, Zac Plummer 3, Ben Crocker 3, Derek Vigue 3 and Ezra Jones 1.
“In the third quarter we switched from a zone to man-to-man. We forced a couple of turnovers and made some shots,” coach Benjamin said.
Scoring for Wiscasset were Benn 16, Grover 12, Brewer 9 (5A,6R), Murphy 9, Hodgdon 6, Jones 6 and Sonia 5. Scoring for Georges Valley were Ben Wallace 14, Alex Wallace 11, Dylan Maloney 9, Dustin Laudie 6, Drew Townsend 5, and Tyler Gilson 2.
