Wiscasset and Lincoln Academy swimmers traveled to UMO this week for the Class B State championships. The top eight swimmers in each event collected medallions, and the ninth to 16th places collected ribbons.
Wiscasset boys placed seventh overall out of 23 teams with 144 points. Lincoln was 22nd with five points. MDI won the meet with 368 points.
The girls swam on Monday. Wiscasset’s Rachel Hanley placed seventh in the 50-free in 27.12, and ninth in the 100-breast in 1:17.
Lincoln girls placed 12th in the 200-medley relay in 2:16 and the 200-free relay in 2:03, with Olivia Delisle, Katie Jackson, Julia Tichy, Caroline MacDonald, and Anna Lee swimming.
The boys’ state championship was held Tuesday at UMO.
Wiscasset’s Tim George took second in the 100-free in 50.22 and fifth in the 100-back in 59.84. Dre Kuhnel placed seventh in the 100-fly, breaking his own record in 59.60, and placed ninth in the 100-back in 1:00.
John McLeod placed eighth in the 100-fly in 1:00 and 12th in the 50-free in 59.60. Ross Hanley took 11th in both the 500-free in 5:58 and the 100-fly in 1:02.
Lincoln’s Peter Huntington placed 14th in the 50-free in 24.87 and 15th in the 100-fly in 56.89. Wiscasset’s Brandon Campbell narrowly missed the finals in the 100-breast, finishing the prelims in 18th place in 1:24.
Medomak Valley’s Stefano Bezzan missed the finals in the 100-free in 57.70 with a 17th place finish in the prelims, and was 21st in the 50-free in 25.83 in the prelims.
Wiscasset boys placed third in the 200-yard medley relay in 1:49.76. The Redskins broke the school record in the prelims in 1:49.41. Swimming a leg on the relay were George, McLeod, Kuhnel, and Hanley.
