Wiscasset boys soccer team hopes to continue what they started last season. Coach Todd Souza inherited a young team with just two seniors. He will rely heavily on his underclassmen, with just seven upper classmen on his 21-player roster.
Wiscasset finished their 2012 campaign with a 7-6-1 record.
With nine freshman, the key “will just be getting them up to speed. The upper classmen have been working with them. The sophomores know; they were there last year. The sophomores are a very skilled group. They had to learn to play quicker and faster. I think by end of year we will be a very skilled team,” Souza said.
Ultimately, we would love to win the Mt. Valley Conference. We are young, but we are setting our goals high. We want to get better every game, and want to win the MVC. That will put us in a good spot playoff wise,” he said.
Two veteran players are battling for the goal keeping position, Dylan McMahon and Nate Mills. McMahon sat out last season with a shoulder injury, and rookie Mills took on the role. “Both are doing a good job. Both will start, one play in goal and one will play on defense,” Souza said.
Playing for the Wolverines this fall are seniors Logan Grover and David Marcus; juniors Mason Whitaker, Camden Reiss, Travis Padilla, Dylan McMahon and Andrew Corson; sophomores JD Souxa, Bryceson Grover, Nate Mills, Alex Webber and Zack Fifield; and freshmen Kevin Lynch, Brandon Goud, Russell Marr, Ethan James, Nate Woodman, Aidan Carleson, Josh Kramley, Alex Strozier, and Conlon Ranta.
Souza will be assisted by coaches Bruce Jennings and Ashton Benn this fall.
