Wiscasset Girls’ Soccer Loses Seventh Straight Game

Wiscasset girls’ soccer started out their MVC season with two wins, but has lost their last seven, including two by one goal and two by two goals. The Wolverines lost three games this past week, 2-1 to Spruce Mountain, 4-0 to Hall-Dale, and 2-0 to Monmouth.

Spruce Mountain 2 – Wiscasset 1Alexi Deering gave Spruce Mountain an early lead less than 10 minutes into the 1st half. Alecia Faulkingham knotted the score for Wiscasset with 9:14 left in the half. Faulkingham took the ball down the right wing and crossed it and the ball curled into the corner. Vanese Barnes scored the game winner with 10:27 to go in the game.

Spruce Mountain held a 27-13 edge in shots. Caroline Footer made 12 saves for the Wolverines, and Emily Keene three for Spruce Mountain.

“We played really well tonight. It was the best we’ve played in the last couple of weeks. We had good spacing, good passing and good communication,” coach Duane Goud commented.Hall-Dale 4 – Wiscasset 0Hall-Dale shut out Wiscasset 4-0 in Wiscasset on Saturday. The Bulldogs had 1st half goals from Carolanne Wolfington and Kristina Buck, and 2nd half goals from Andrew Fredericks and Wolfington.

Hall-Dale held a 16-3 advantage in shots. Kasey Cromwell made 10 stops for the Wolverines, and Megan Cope two for the Bulldogs.Monmouth 2 – Wiscasset 0The Mustangs rode the Wolverines to a 2-0 victory. Ashley Coulomb and Kylie Kemp scored 1st half goals for Monmouth. “We held them scoreless in the 2nd half. We played a fairly decent game after that,” Goud said of the 1st half. “We need to be at the top of our game when we get on the field,” Goud added of Wiscasset giving up early goals in all three games this week.

Monmouth held a 15-6 advantage in shots. Cromwell made four saves for Wiscasset and Natalie Young three for Monmouth.
