Wiscasset girls’ soccer team has set the bar high this season, and is aiming for a West Class C playoff slot. Returning coach Chris Hammond is optimistic.
“We are passing the ball well, which we struggled to do the last couple of years. The addition of Maggie West (transfer student from Morse) and Ali Johnson up front” will beef up the offense, Hammond said. “They and Haley Grant (leading scorer the past two years) will give us more weapons up front, a lot more consistency and many more scoring opportunities.”
“We are solid on defense. We have a lot of experience on the defensive and offensive ends. I’m liking the way we look. Our biggest concern is for the freshmen to play consistently. It is a difficult transition from middle school to high school,” Hammond said.
Team members include seniors Haley Grant, Alli Johnson, Becca Slack, Lauren Trudeau, Cassandra Tardif, Maggie West, and Elegance Hartwick; juniors Abby Foster, Syd Morin and Kelsey Hammond; sophomore Alyssa Smith and freshmen Bri Goud, Micaela Trudeau, Maddy Wehrle, Shania Marr, Sarah Hanley, Casey Cromwell, and Sam Sutter.
Wiscasset girls open their season on Fri., Sept. 3 at St. Dom’s. Their home opener is Tues., Sept. 7 against Georges Valley at 4 p.m.
