Wiscasset’s golf team won the MVC State qualifier on Oct. 8 with a team round of 340 to earn the right to compete for the State Class C championship held at Natanis Golf Course on Oct. 10.
The Redskins shot a team round of 355 on Saturday and were crowned state runner-ups to St. Dom’s, who shot a 327. This is the second straight year Wiscasset has been State Class C runner-ups.
Heather Hodgdon shot a 102 at Wednesday’s 18-hole qualifier to win the Mt. Valley Conference championship. Hodgdon also qualified for the State Individual championships to be played at Natanis on Oct. 18.
MVC Qualifier
Wiscasset shot a 340 to win the MVC State Qualifier on Wednesday. Only two Class C teams qualified for the States out of the Mt. Valley Conference qualifier. Three individuals, Jordan Jones (72), Jimmy Davis (83), and Justin Caron (89) qualified for the State Class C
Individual championships to be played at Natanis on Oct. 18. Josh Sonia shot a 96 and Charles Stewart a 109 at the MVC qualifier.
State championships
Jordan Jones was low medallist at the state team championships held at Natanis, on Saturday, with a 74. Davis shot an 82, Caron a 97, Sonia a 102 and Stewart a 104 in the 18 hole tournament.
“I’m happy. You don’t make all your goals. We set a goal to shoot 340, and we reached that” at the MVC qualifier, coach Tim Flanagan said. “It was a lot windier at the State meet. That really affects the game,” Flanders said, adding.
