Wiscasset defeated Mt.Valley in a foul fest that saw 54 fouls called and neither team able to establish a rhythm. The Falcons were tagged with 30 fouls and the Redskin 24 in the physical match-up between the two MVC rivals.
Mt. Valley had two players foul out and four with four fouls, and Wiscasset had Cody Griffin and Sumner Averill foul out and Jason Dennison had four fouls.
Wiscasset led from the opening basket, a 3-pointer from Averill, and scored the first 11 points of the ball game. The Falcons scored back-to-back hoops to end the quarter down 11-4.
Mt. Valley pulled within two early in the second. Dennison hit a big three and Nick Hinkley scored one at the line to build a little cushion.
The Falcons pulled within one on a foul shot from Cameron Kaubris, but Wiscasset went on a 7-1 run. Alex Slack scored on a Josh Sonia feed; Dennison scored off the offensive glass, and Griffin converted a Dennison feed to boost Wiscasset’s lead to seven. Wiscasset led 23-17 at the break.
Wiscasset opened the 3rd with a 13-4 run to open up a healthy 15-point lead. Mt. Valley cut it to seven by the break.
Kaubris cut the lead to five in the 4th, before Wiscasset rattled off seven straight points, with Dennison hitting a three and inside hoop from Averill, and Josh Hopkins going inside for two.
The 4th quarter turned into a foul shooting contest, with Wiscasset making 10 of 16 attempts, and Mt. Valley making 5 of 13.
Scoring for Wiscasset were Dennison 18 (8R,2S,2B,3A), Hinkley 12 (6R,4S,8A), Hopkins 10 (all in 4th 7R), Averill 7, Jimmy Davis 4, Griffin 4 (2R,3B,3A), Sonia 2, and Slack 2.
Scoring for Mt. Valley were Kaubris 22, Matthew Laubauskas 10 (12R), Travis Ruff 9, Chris Day 7 (4R,4S), Jacob Arsenault 3, and Cole Clark 2.
