Wiscasset softball rallied from behind to beat Boothbay 23-16 in the two teams’ MVC opener on April 24 in Wiscasset. The game was originally scheduled to be played in Boothbay, but was moved due to wet field conditions.
Wiscasset jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the first inning before Boothbay took advantage of walks to plate 10 runs. By the end of the second inning, the Seahawks led 11-7.
Returning coach Glenn Powers pulled starting pitcher Tylan Onorato and replaced her with Kacie Luce. Luce struck out five and gave up only five more runs over the next five innings to earn the win.
Wiscasset smashed 18 hits in the win, led by Kayla Gordon with three triples and a single (4 RBI), Charlene Reed two hits (2 RBI), Onorato two hits (4RBI), Stephanie Jones three singles (3 RBI), Luce two hits, Grace Webber two hits, and Corey Campbell (2 RBI).
Hitting for Boothbay were Saida Riddell with three singles (2 RBI), and Mackenzie Abbot, Tori Morin, and Jo Shaw (3 RBI) a hit each.
