Wiscasset boys’ soccer team returns a veteran crew this season with three seniors and seven juniors.
The Redskins are headed up by a new coach Wayne Benn, who is no stranger to coaching soccer. Benn coached Wiscasset girls for eight years, and has coached three quarters of this group of boys in Club Soccer for the past nine years. Wiscasset played 11 games during summer soccer and went .500.
“They got a lot of playing time,” Benn said of his summer team.
Wiscasset had just 20 boys come out for soccer this fall, so will not run a JV program. “We’re keeping all 20” on varsity, Benn said.
They hope to build off their 7-4-3 record of a year ago. The Redskins were seeded 11th and lost to Waynflete in the first round of the playoffs. “The seniors and juniors will be our strong suite,” Ben said.
Team members include seniors Cody Griffin, Cody Verrill and Corbin Percy; juniors Tyler Sonia, Ashton Benn, Mason Brewer, Daniel Murphy, John McLeod, Brian Campbell and Ross Hanley; sophomores Cory Hodgdon, Caleb Bryant, Devin Grover, Jason Weatherbee, Casey Dalton, Zach Rankin, Jonathan West, and James Andretta; and, freshmen Ryan Hanley and Edward Stewart.
