Wiscasset boys’ soccer team defeated Livermore Falls 3-0 in their MVC opener in Wiscasset on Saturday. The Redskins dominated the game, unleashing 41 shots, while giving up just 10.
John McLeod opened scoring 13 minutes into the game on a pass from Ashton Benn. The goal was set up by Cody Verrill, who made a big defensive stop and passed up the field to Benn.
Redskin keeper Mason Brewer stopped a Kyle Whittemore breakaway shortly after the goal. On a second shot, with Brewer down, Caleb Bryant came up big defensively at the mouth of the goal for Wiscasset.
Wiscasset made it 2-0 with six minutes to go in the half, when Benn converted a pass from Verrill.
Tough physical play from Andies’ keeper Willy Brown kept Wiscasset from scoring more often.
Cody Griffin scored the third goal six minutes into the second half when he collected a little through pass from Bryant and found the back of the net.
Brewer made two tap saves in a mad scramble in front of the Redskin net, before Danny Murphy blasted the ball up the field to preserve the shutout. Brewer made 10 saves for Wiscasset, and Brown 31 for Livermore Falls.
“I thought everyone played well. They passed the ball well and distributed well. It was a good effort from everyone,” coach Wayne Benn said.
