Wiscasset swim team fields a small squad this season with nine swimmers, including senior Sarah Hanley (captain), juniors Maeve Carlson, Jessica McLeod, Julia West, Jade Wood and Kyle Viele, sophomores Amanda Marcus and Sam Storer, and freshman Colin Viele.
Wiscasset has partnered with Hyde School in Bath to make practices more competitive. “The introduction of an additional program makes for larger training groups which benefits the kids,” coach Jon Mellinger said. “One of the swimmers to watch is up and comer Colin Viele. He’s a strong swimmer and has made a large impact on his peers at the club level. His youth and talent this early is encouraging. Sarah Hanley and Julia West will be leaned on to take leadership roles on the team.”
In the Wolverines’ home opener Dec. 4, four swimmers qualified for the State B meet, including Sarah Hanley in the 200 free in 2:23.99; Julia West in the 200 IM (2:36.45) and 100 Breast (1:16.20); Sam Storer in the 200 IM (2:33.19) and 100 Fly (1:09.61); and Colin Viele in the 500 free (5:52.32).
Wiscasset’s girls won the 200 free relay in 1:54.59, with Jade Wood, Sarah Hanley, Maeve Carlson, and Julia West swimming a leg.
