South Portland 12 – Lincoln 2
District 6 champions South Portland defeated Lincoln County 12-2 in four innings on July 22 in the local boys second game of the State Little League tournament. Three ptichers saw mound time for Lincoln in the first inning against the hard hitting South Portland team.
Hobbs collected the win for South Portland. Pitching in the loss for Lincoln were Aidan Gallagher, Cedar Cannon, Micah Tomasello and Ben Sawyer.
Nick Prior hit a two run homerun scoring Cody Cleaveland, who reached on a double. Cannon collected the only other Lincoln hit with a single.
Hitting for South Portland were Poole with a homerun, double and two singles, Stanley a double and two singles, Gilboy a homerun and single, and Lee two singles.
Lewiston 6 – Lincoln 4
Lewiston eliminated Lincoln County 6-4 in an 11 inning marathon game on July 23 at the State Little League tournament in Westbrook. “It was the best Little Leagur game I’ve seen in my life,” coach Allen Tomasello said.
Lewiston took a 1-0 lead in the seond inning. Lincoln tied the game in the fourth when Cleaveland singled and scored on a Wotton ground out. Lewiston retook the lead in the fifth. Lincoln tied the game in the sixth to force extra innings. With two outs, Wotton singled in Nick Prior for the tying run.
The game stayed 2-2 going into the 11th inning. Lincoln loaded up the bases in the top of the 11th inning on walks to Ben Sawyer and Jake Masters and Lucas Houghton was hit by a pitch. Cannon hit a RBI single scoring Sawyer and Cleaveland walked in Masters to give the local boys their first lead of the ball game.
Lewiston came back in the home half of the inning, loading up the bases on a single and two walks. Lincoln got the next two batters out, before Ulrich stepped to the plate and hit a walk off grand slam homerun.
Cannon (2.2I), Cleaveland (6I) and Houghton pitched in the loss.
Hitting for Lincoln were Cannon with two doubles, and Wotton, Cleaveland and Prior a single each. Hitting for Lewiston were St.Hillaire with three singles, Ulrich a homerun and Murphy and Maynard a single each.
