Nancy Ann Ware of Wilmington, Del. and New Harbor, died on Nov. 28. She was born in 1925 in Owensboro, Ky. She moved to West Palm Beach, Fla. in 1932. She was a graduate of Palm Beach High School and Florida State University, where she was a devoted sister of Alpha Chi Omega.
Her career in social work in Florida, Louisiana and Delaware mainly involved children. She moved to Delaware in 1954 where she was employed as a social worker and later an administrator for The Children’s Bureau of Delaware. She retired in 1985. She was a devoted friend to many of the foster children she supervised.
Nancy was an active member at The Episcopal Church of Saints Andrew and Matthew, where she served on the Altar Guild and Lenten Lunch Committee. She volunteered at Ingleside Nursing Home and The Episcopal Home.
Nancy had special interests in gardening, traveling, and spending time with friends. She especially loved spending time at her home in Maine. She was a devoted owner to her four dogs, Tiny, Maude, Toby, and Kyla.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George Willard Ware and Martine Harl Ware; and sisters, Dorothy Jane Glisson and Margaret Elizabeth Brizzie.
She is survived by nieces, Donna Hitch, Nancy Smith, Gail Poglitsch, and Barbara Farmer; great-nieces and nephews, Lesley Holbrook, Laney Tate, Jon Poglitsch, Amanda Perches, Tyler Hitch, Genevieve Bohac, Whitney Wright, Justin Farmer, and Macy Farmer; cousin, Valerie Sands; and dear friends, Elizabeth Townsend, Bruce and Diane Kelsey, and Sue Tew-Stephenson.
Nancy’s kind-hearted, loving ways will be sorely missed by those who were blessed to know her.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Sat., Dec. 12 at The Episcopal Church of Saints Andrew and Matthew, 8th and Shipley Streets in Wilmington, Del. Interment will be private.
