A three-vehicle crash near Sherman Lake Rest Area on Route 1 in Newcastle sent one man to the hospital with a non-life-threatening injury on Wednesday, Aug. 3.
Mark C. Phillips, 44, of Boothbay, was transported by Central Lincoln County Ambulance Service to LincolnHealth’s Miles Campus in Damariscotta with a neck abrasion after his gray 2006 Toyota Tundra collided with two cars, according to Lt. Brendan Kane of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
A white 2021 Nissan van, driven by Kenneth C. Phillips, 45, of Pittsfield, was heading southbound towards Wiscasset and slowing to make a left-hand turn into the rest area around 9:30 a.m., LCSO Deputy Jeffrey Rogers said at the scene. The van was struck from behind by a black 2013 Honda Crosstrek, driven by Ella Andrews, 19, of Cushing.
The Toyota truck then hit the Honda, spinning the vehicle around 180 degrees, and proceeded to collide with the side of the Nissan van.
Traffic on Route 1 was closed to one lane for more than an hour for clean-up. Quick Turn Auto Repair & Towing of Damariscotta retrieved the vehicles from the roadway.
The Newcastle Fire Department also responded for traffic control and clean-up.
