The week of May 17 was a busy time for Garden Club of Wiscasset member Candice “Canny” Cahn.
With the help of the Wiscasset Parks and Recreation Department and in particular, Brandi Marshall, six EarthPlanters were installed on the Main Street sidewalk in downtown Wiscasset.
The planters have walls that hold 16 gallons of water and should support the plants for up to three weeks without having to be refilled. Wiscasset Fire Chief Rob Bickford used the town’s pumper truck to fill the water walls.
Over the years, watering flowers in hanging baskets or various types of containers has been a challenge for the garden club and the town of Wiscasset. In the fall 2025, the club’s board voted to gift the town $5,000 and purchased six EarthPlanters in January. The attractive, substantial containers made in the USA will be very beneficial in solving water issues.
There has been immense downtime support for this project. Ames True Value donated the petunias and soil. Nutrients and other plants were donated by the garden club. Cahn and her team will continue to oversee this undertaking.
