As lupine season approaches, a new book offers readers the inside scoop on the long life of Maine’s “lupine lady,” the real-life woman who scattered lupine seeds from South Bristol to Damariscotta, inspiring the fictional character in Barbara Cooney’s beloved children’s book, “Miss Rumphius.”

Daniel C. Seiders IV left this world on May 8, 2024, at the Brentwood Center for Health & Rehabilitation in Yarmouth, after a long battle with lewy body with dementia. He was born on Sept. 21, 1963, in Jacksonville, Fla. at the naval base where his father was stationed. Danny was the third of five children, born to Daniel C. Seiders III and Marilyn E. (Knight) Seiders. After spending his first three years in Florida, the family moved back to Maine in 1966.

Hiram Watson Sibley V was born in Rochester, N.Y. on July 14, 1932, to his parents Anne Robbins and Hiram Sibley IV. He passed away peacefully at Cove’s Edge in Damariscotta on May 3, 2024, after visiting with some of his family who got a chance to say goodbye.
