Wiscasset Police Department’s second-in-command sustained minor injuries in a two-car accident on Bath Road reported at about 12:27 a.m., Thursday, April 14.
One of the department’s two patrol vehicles sustained significant damage in the crash, according to a Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office press release.
Wiscasset Police Sgt. Willy Simmons, 64, was on patrol early Thursday morning in the department’s 2013 Dodge Charger. He was driving south on Bath Road when Yeshi Khendrup, 42, of El Cerrito, Calif., attempted to exit the Irving/Circle K convenience store in a 2016 Acura SUV, according to the press release.
Khendrup pulled into the path of Simmons’ vehicle, which struck Khendrup’s SUV on the driver’s side, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Lt. Rand Maker wrote in the press release. The Wiscasset Ambulance Service transported Simmons to LincolnHealth – Miles Campus for minor injuries.
He was treated and released, according to the press release. Khendrup was uninjured. Both vehicles sustained significant damage and were towed from the scene.
Khendrup was issued a traffic citation for failing to yield the right of way, Maker wrote.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Wiscasset Ambulance Service, and Wiscasset Fire Department responded to the scene, which was cleared in about an hour, Maker wrote.
