The new Dollar General and Sherwin-Williams stores at the corner of Main Street and Biscay Road are now open.
A grand opening for the Dollar General at 507 Main St. is tentatively planned for Jan. 6, according to Dollar General spokesperson Angela Petkovic. The store opened Sunday, Dec. 17.
A representative from the Sherwin-Williams corporate office did not respond to a request for comment.
Dollar General is hiring and will employ about six to 10 people, depending on the needs of the store, Petkovic said.
Petkovic declined to say how many people currently work at the store. She also declined requests to interview the store manager and take photos inside the store.
Dollar General stores sell name-brand merchandise, including health and beauty products, home-cleaning supplies, clothing, and food, Petkovic said.
The Damariscotta Dollar General is open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day, according to the sign on its door.
Less than a week before the Damariscotta Dollar General opened, the Wiscasset Planning Board heard a proposal for a Dollar General at 320 Bath Road, about 13 miles away.
When Dollar General chooses new store locations, the company looks for places where it “can offer customers an easy and convenient shopping choice,” Petkovic said.
“We know convenience is a major factor in our customers’ shopping decisions, as we generally serve customers within a 3- to 5-mile radius, or 10-minute drive,” Petkovic said. “We also take demographic trends, competitive factors, traffic patterns, and community concerns into consideration.”
Dollar General will release more information about the grand opening closer to the event, Petkovic said.
The Sherwin-Williams store is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Sherwin-Williams sells paints, stains, and related products.
