The Coastal Humane Society and Lincoln County Animal Shelter Board of Directors has named Trendy Stanchfield as its new executive director. Stanchfield takes the position after former director Joe Montisano left the organization in August to be director of the Great Lakes Aquarium in Duluth, Minn.
Winter Programs for All Ages at DRA
Whether young or young at heart, everyone can find something at Damariscotta River Association this winter. Programs include a scientific drawing workshop with David Wheeler, guided hikes, the Winter Fest at Round Top Farms, and a winter gear show-and-tell with Maine Sport Outfitters.
Nomination Petition Forms Available for 2018 Candidates
The Maine Department of the Secretary of State is providing petition forms for Maine residents who plan to run for public office as of Wednesday, Dec. 27. All those who seek to have their name on the ballot for federal, state, or county public office in 2018, including current officeholders who will seek re-election, must complete the petition forms.
Early Deadlines: Christmas and New Year’s
The Lincoln County News office will be closed Monday, Dec. 25 and Monday, Jan. 1 for the Christmas and New Year’s Day holidays. The deadline for letters to the editor and press releases – normally 5 p.m. Monday – is 5 p.m. Friday for the Dec. 28 and Jan. 4 editions. The deadline for advertisements is noon Friday.
DRA Community Ice Rink Now Open
A gift to the community, Damariscotta River Association’s ice rink at Round Top Farms in Damariscotta depends on Mother Nature for ice and numerous volunteers for ice maintenance.

Blood Drive in Waldoboro
The Waldoboro Baptist Church, at 71 Grace Ave. in Waldoboro, will hold a Red Cross blood drive on Wednesday, Dec. 27 from 2-7 p.m. All presenting donors will receive a Red Cross T-shirt.

The success of the Central Lincoln County YMCA’s Community Giving Tree is due to the great collaborative efforts among the CLC YMCA, Damariscotta Baptist Church, Damariscotta Montessori School, the Damariscotta Police Department, the Damariscotta town office, the Ecumenical Food Pantry, Great Salt Bay Community School, the Jefferson town office, Jefferson Village School, Lincoln Academy, Maine Behavioral Healthcare, Miller Elementary School, the Newcastle town office, Nobleboro Central School, the Nobleboro town hall, Second Congregational Church, South Bristol School, Stepping Stones Mental Health and Counseling Inc., Sweetser, and YMCA Child Care.
Lincoln County Dental Announces Dental Clinic Fundraising Campaign
The mission of Lincoln County Dental Inc. is to provide access to dental care to those individuals who are at or below 150 percent of the federal poverty line and have no dental “home.” The agency opened its doors seven years ago and served Lincoln County residents. In June 2016, a catastrophic flood destroyed the clinic, forcing the abrupt closure of the Damariscotta location. Since that time, the administrative home for Lincoln County Dental has been on the St. Andrews Campus of LincolnHealth, where it has continued to provide a very limited array of services.

Widely recognized as one of the most prestigious distinctions any hospital can achieve in the United States, The Leapfrog Group has named LincolnHealth to its annual list of top rural hospitals in the United States for the sixth time in seven years. LincolnHealth was one of only 18 rural hospitals in the United States to earn this honor in 2017.
Healthy Kids Opens Doors to Families for Toys
Healthy Kids will once again open its doors on Tuesday, Dec. 19 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Wednesday, Dec. 20 from 1-4 p.m. to all Lincoln County families in need of gifts for their families. As a result of the extremely generous toy drive sponsored by Randy Miller of Newcastle Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Viper, Healthy Kids will once again offer the toys.
No Hydrilla in Damariscotta Lake for First Time Since 2009
Thanks to hundreds of hours of volunteer time; public support from the towns of Jefferson, Nobleboro, and Newcastle; the Maine Department of Environmental Protection; and current and former staff of Midcoast Conservancy, the invasive plant Hydrilla was not found in Damariscotta Lake in 2017. This is the first year that no Hydrilla has been found in either infested location since it was first discovered in the lake in 2009.
