LA Seeks Vacation Homestays for International Students
It is a long way home for many of the international students attending Lincoln Academy in Newcastle. While the school offers comfortable dormitories while school is in session, not all of the international students are able to travel home during academic breaks. Of the 90 students attending Lincoln Academy from 19 countries this year, approximately two dozen hope to stay with local families for a week during February and April vacations.

New Tool Helps Oyster Farmers Prepare For Changing Ocean Chemistry
For Bill Mook, coastal acidification is one thing his oyster hatchery cannot afford to ignore. Mook Sea Farm in Walpole depends on seawater from the Gulf of Maine pumped into a Quonset-hut-style building where tiny oysters are grown in tanks. Mook sells these tiny oysters to other oyster farmers or transfers them to his oyster farm on the Damariscotta River where they grow large enough to sell to restaurants and markets on the East Coast.
Rhodes Family Benefit Dinner
A benefit pig-roast dinner will be held from 5-7 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 4 at the Thompson Community Center, at 51 S. Union Road in Union, for the Rhodes family. There will be a silent auction, a pie auction, and a 50/50 raffle.
