The Knox-Lincoln County Beekeepers group will host its monthly meeting at 9 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 10. This meeting will feature a workshop for extracting honey.

A new project initiated by the Second Congregational UCC in Newcastle, Broad Bay UCC in Waldoboro, Skidompha Public Library in Damariscotta, and the Mid Coast Queer Collective aims to help homeless queer and transgender youth, who are in a situation which recently has reached epidemic proportions.

For more than 100 years, Americans have celebrated Labor Day as a tribute to the working men and women who keep the country moving. Accordingly, the U.S. Postal Service will be closed on Monday, Sept. 5. As one of the largest employers in the United States, it is proud to pause as it honors and recognizes America’s working class. Full mail delivery and retail services will resume on Tuesday, Sept. 6.

New Hope for Women, which offers support to victims of domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking, will hold a 40-hour training session for individuals interested in volunteering on the agency’s 24-hour crisis hotline.

The Lincoln County News office will be closed for Labor Day on Monday, Sept. 5. The deadline for letters to the editor and press releases – normally 5 p.m. Monday – is 5 p.m., Friday, Sept. 2 for the upcoming edition. The deadline for ads is noon Friday.

The office building at 251 Jefferson St. in Waldoboro will have an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 27. The building, formerly the home of Taction, as well as New England 800 Co., was purchased by Five Nickel LLC in October of last year. The building is the new location of Studio 3: Wicked Fitness and Condition Orange Defense Academy. The second floor of the building has been newly renovated and has several individual offices for rent.

Lincoln Academy ninth-graders start school on Tuesday, Aug. 30, and upper-class students return Wednesday, Aug. 31. Ninth-grade orientation will begin on Tuesday, Aug. 30. Freshmen should report to the LA gym at 7:50 a.m. that day, and they will be dismissed at 2:35 p.m. The following day — Wednesday, Aug. 31 — seniors will spend all day, from 7:50 a.m. to 2:35 p.m., at Kieve-Wavus Education Center participating in team-building activities, while sophomores and juniors will have a half day, from 7:50-11:40 a.m., on campus. Ninth-graders should report to school in the afternoon of Aug. 31 from 3-5 p.m. only. Parents of ninth-graders are invited to a parent meeting at 5 p.m., where they can meet their student’s advisor and hear about the year to come.
