Over 300 people turned out for Coastal Rivers Conservation Trust’s annual membership celebration on July 17, the first all-members event since the unification of the Damariscotta River Association and the Pemaquid Watershed Association last March.
Nominations Open for Annual Governor’s Awards
The Maine Commission for Community Service is seeking nominations for all categories of the annual Governor’s Awards for Service and Volunteerism. The goal of these awards is to celebrate and honor the exemplary work and leadership of Maine’s dedicated citizens of all ages.
‘Doggone’ Pool Party in Wiscasset
A “doggone” pool party will be held Saturday, Aug. 24 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Wiscasset Community Center, 242 Gardiner Road, Wiscasset. Free, but donations are accepted.
Local Pot Buoys Past and Present on Display
Brightly colored pot buoys bob in the ocean all along the Maine coast. Each fisherman’s buoys have a unique color scheme. Visit the S Road School on Route 129 in South Bristol on Saturdays in August from 1-4 p.m. and step back a few years to the time when buoys were carved from wood rather than the Styrofoam creations that began to be used in the 1960s. The old wooden buoys varied in shape as well.

Morgan Mayo was the loving granddaughter of Ernest and Florence Bourgon, of Damariscotta. She was a kind, giving, selfless soul that sadly succumbed to her addiction on June 12 of this year.
‘Goal Setting and the Value of Partnerships’ Event is Aug. 15

Princess Tea Party to Benefit Local Burn Victim Charlotte Ramsdell
This Saturday, Aug. 3, from 1-6 p.m. at the Damariscotta Baptist Church, at 4 Bristol Road in Damariscotta, a lovely “Frozen” festival and princess tea party is planned. Queen Elsa, Princess Anna, and another princess are going to visit. There will be games, face painting, dancing, music, and food.
People to People Free Clothing Exchange
People to People is a cooperative ministry of Lincoln County churches and local donors. People to People offers free clothing and household items from 4-6 p.m. each Monday. They will no longer be open Thursday evenings.

Lillian Labrie Recognized for Alewife Support
The alewife festival is over, but the beloved river herring continue to populate Damariscotta Lake. The adult alewives are making their return down the ladder and to the sea. The eggs they did lay are now millions of tiny alewives. They can be easily seen while wading into the lake. In a few months these fish will grow to 4-5 feet long and follow the remaining mature alewives down the river to the open ocean.
