The Old Bristol Garden Club is holding the third annual Choose Your Prize raffle. Tickets are $5 each or five for $20. The drawing will be held on Thursday, Sept. 13 at The 1812 Farm, during the club’s annual meeting. It is not necessary to be present to win. Entrants are asked to mark their tickets with the desired prize. Prizes must be picked up locally or can be shipped if the winner is willing to cover the shipping cost.
Maine Open Lighthouse Day Welcomes Public with Free Admission
Maine’s iconic coastal sentinels take center stage during the 10th annual Maine Open Lighthouse Day, to be held Saturday, Sept. 8 in locations from Kennebunkport to Lubec. Twenty-three lighthouses, including many not typically open to the public, will welcome visitors with free entry on this one day.
Waldoboro Food Pantry News
On Aug. 21, the Waldoboro Food Pantry provided food assistance to 60 households from the Bremen, Waldoboro, and the North Nobleboro area. The households received perishable and nonperishable food items purchased for them by the pantry.

Candlelit Walk for World Suicide Prevention Day
Suicide rates went up more than 30 percent in half of the U.S. states from 1999-2016, according to a June 2018 Vitalsigns report from the Centers for Disease Control. Maine and Lincoln County have both seen those same steady increases.
Area Children to Benefit from Library Fundraiser

Newcastle Character Code Presentation Moved
The location of the public presentation on the proposed Newcastle Character Zoning Code scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 28 has been moved to the community room at the Newcastle fire station on River Road. The program will begin at 7 p.m., as previously announced. Anyone interested in hearing about the new code, which is based on the concepts in the comprehensive plan adopted in June, is invited to attend.
