On Saturday, Aug. 25, volunteers from the Damariscotta Pumpkinfest committee joined forces with Lincoln Academy students and staff to prepare more than 1,000 T-shirts and sweatshirts celebrating this year’s Pumpkinfest.
Candlelit Walk for World Suicide Prevention Day
Suicide rates went up more than 30 percent in half of the U.S. states from 1999-2016, according to a June 2018 Vitalsigns report from the Centers for Disease Control. Maine and Lincoln County have both seen those same steady increases.
Area Children to Benefit from Library Fundraiser
Money raised at the upcoming Bands for Books event organized by Friends of the Wiscasset Public Library will help pay for new carpeting and painting in the library’s children’s room and for the purchase of electronic tablets children can borrow to download books and take home for a few weeks.

Community Forum on Mental Health in Waldoboro
The National Library of Health and Healing in Waldoboro is pleased to announce an upcoming community forum called “Mainers and Medicines for Mental Health.” Dr. Marcia Smolin, a well-known local psychiatrist, will be the featured speaker.
Nationwide Test of Emergency Alert System on Sept. 20
The Federal Emergency Management Agency, in coordination with the Federal Communications Commission, will conduct a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System and Wireless Emergency Alert on Sept. 20 (primary date) or Oct. 3 (secondary date).
Newcastle Character Code Presentation Moved
The location of the public presentation on the proposed Newcastle Character Zoning Code scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 28 has been moved to the community room at the Newcastle fire station on River Road. The program will begin at 7 p.m., as previously announced. Anyone interested in hearing about the new code, which is based on the concepts in the comprehensive plan adopted in June, is invited to attend.

Bristol Lions Golf Tournament Prize is New Jeep Cherokee
Newcastle Chrysler will offer a 2018 Jeep Cherokee as the prize for hitting a hole-in-one on the third hole at the tenth annual Bristol Area Lions Golf Tournament at the Wawenock Golf Club in Walpole on Saturday, Sept. 1, with a rain date of Sept. 2.
Bristol Masons Seek Donations for Yard Sale
The Bristol Masonic Lodge will hold a yard sale on Saturday, Aug. 25 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The lodge is soliciting donations of saleable items in support of this efforts. All proceeds from the yard sale will be directed to the Masonic Scholarship Fund, the Masonic Charitable Fund, and community service as needs arise.
Beachcombers’ Rest Nature Center Has Final Days for Season
The end of summer is near, but there will be one more beach exploration presented at the Beachcombers’ Rest Nature Center at Pemaquid Beach Park called “Monarchs at the Beach.” The final day open at the nature center will be on Saturday, Aug. 26.
