For 40-plus years, Newcastle painter Helen Warner largely devoted herself to a nursing career. Retirement afforded her the time to focus on her watercolor and oil painting. Her nature-focused oils and watercolors were the subject of a summer 2016 exhibit at the Pemaquid Watershed Association office-gallery in Damariscotta.

LCCT to Hold Auditions for ‘9 To 5: The Musical’

Mystery Writer to Speak at Library
Author Linda Greenlaw is coming to Waldoboro Public Library on Saturday, Jan. 13 at 1:30 p.m. to kick off the library’s speaker series of 2018. Greenlaw will discuss her newest mystery novel, “Shiver Hitch,” and her life as a lobster boat captain. She is the author of the bestsellers “The Hungry Ocean,” “All Fishermen are Liars,” “The Lobster Chronicles,” and “Recipes from a Small Island,” as well as the Jane Bunker mysteries, including “Slipknot” and “Fisherman’s Bend.”
Union Printmaker Opens ‘Upcycled’ Show at Miles
Union artist Kathy Felch will present her “Upcycled and Repurposed” exhibition at the Hall Gallery at LincolnHealth’s Miles Campus in Damariscotta from Saturday, Jan. 6 through Friday, Feb. 9. The exhibit features 20 wood and linoleum block prints on recycled papers surrounded by repurposed frames. A portion of the sale price for any art sold in this exhibit will go to benefit the Miles Memorial Hospital League.

Nature is art outside my window: My office window here at The Lincoln County News in Newcastle looks out onto the trailhead of the Great Salt Bay Preserve Heritage Trail. Every now and then, after an extended period of looking at a computer screen, I like to walk across Mills Road and down the trail a little way, through trees that are currently standing in fairly deep snow.
Edgecomb Singer to Hit Portland Stage in Support of New Album
The music on Lena Rich’s engaging new full-length CD falls somewhere between indie rock and indie folk, as the 19-year-old Edgecomb singer-songwriter pointed out in a recent interview – hence the album’s title, “Something in Between.” “Something in Between” is also the name of the CD’s title track, a catchy, insistent rocker about an unsettled love relationship.
