In what could qualify as one of the shortest special town meetings on record, Wiscasset voters needed less than five minutes to approve the purchase of a new snow plow truck Dec. 11.

After serving the town of Wiscasset for 37 years, Sue Varney was honored Dec. 19 at the Wiscasset Community Center by the state of Maine, town officials, past town officials, former town employees, family members, her friends, and the people of Wiscasset.

A total of 189 households, most in the northern part of Lincoln County, were the first power outages reported as heavy rainfall and high winds blasted through the area Tuesday night. The outages were included in the 7:28 p.m. update from Central Maine Power. A Wind Advisory issued by the National Weather Service remained in effect until 11 p.m. as winds gusting to 50 mph were forecast to buffet Lincoln County.

An inmate at Two Bridges Regional Jail is being charged with attempted aggravated assault for squeezing breast milk into a fellow inmate’s drink, knowing she was positive for Hepatitis C.

An Erskine Academy senior from Jefferson got an opportunity to wield executive power in November while he served as youth governor as part of the YMCA’s Maine Youth In Government program.

Rain and wind are still in the forecast, but the possibility of freezing rain and snow has been reduced or eliminated in Lincoln County, at least for the rest of Tuesday and into Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.
