Wiscasset Schedules Oct. 8 Special Town Meeting For Assessing Budget
The Wiscasset Board of Selectmen began sorting out the impact of the voters’ rejection to the assessing/human resources budget Sept. 10, at the board’s meeting Sept. 17.
Wiscasset Town Manager Laurie Smith told the board due to the negative vote, Wiscasset Assessing Agent Sue Varney last day will be Friday, Sept. 20. After that date, the town will no longer have an assessing agent.

On Aug. 31, Deputy Justin Drake was dispatched to a report of a theft of a step ladder (value: $150) from a residence in the Damariscotta area. The ladder is described as being an older fiber glass model. Further investigation to continue if leads develop.
Waldoboro Budget Plan Finds Near-Unanimous Approval
Following a 2 to 2 deadlock earlier in the week on how to move forward with unresolved budget issues, the Waldoboro Board of Selectmen gave unanimous recommendations for a compromise budget plan at their Sept. 19 joint meeting with the Budget Committee.

Calendar Change Behind Somerville’s Mil Rate Increase
Somerville’s new mil rate of $22.50 per $1000 valuation appears to be up significantly over last year, but the increase is mostly due to an 18-month budget period to get the town on a July to June fiscal year, according to Selectman Chair Susan Greer.
Apparent Electrical Fire Guts Nobleboro Home
An accidental malfunction of the electrical system in the home at 9 Chickering Rd. in Nobleboro appears to be the cause of the fire, which gutted the building on Sept. 16, according to Sgt. Ken Grimes of the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
