Weather Alert – NWS Withdraws Winter Weather Advisory as Storm Turns East
The National Weather Service (NWS) has withdrawn a Winter Weather Advisory in regard to a massive storm that was forecast to drop into Lincoln County beginning Wednesday evening and hang around until Thursday morning. The NWS is now calling for only several inches of snowfall along the coastline only.
Alna Representative Proposes Raising Legal Smoking Age To 21
In response to a recent American Lung Association (ALA) report card that gave the state of Maine mixed reviews for its anti-smoking efforts, Rep. Les Fossel (R-Alna) has proposed raising the legal age to purchase tobacco from 18 to 21.
Lincoln County Recycling Effort Saves Money
During a meeting of the Lincoln County Commissioners Jan. 18, Lincoln County Recycling Coordinator Mike Thompson presented the Board with a 2010 recycling revenue summary that showed a total savings of $218,964.65 for the county.
LCEMA Advising Residents to Stay at Home Until Heavy Snowfall Passes
The Lincoln County Emergency Management Agency (LCEMA) is recommending that residents stay off the roads until the heaviest snowfall passes during today’s nor’easter. The announcement was made at 12:18 p.m. by Kimberly Kaiser of the LCEMA, who suggests that people remain where they are until snowplows have a chance to clear roads. The present forecast from the National Weather Service (NWS) calls for snowfall to diminish in the afternoon hours.
Body Found In Waldoboro
At press time Jan. 5, Waldoboro police are investigating the discovery of a deceased male outside a Goshen Road residence.
Investigation Into Huber’s Market Arson Continues
The investigation into a Dec. 26 arson and burglary that closed Huber’s Market of Wiscasset indefinitely has produced “no new leads” according to Wiscasset Police Lt. John Allen. The break in and subsequent fire caused extensive damage to the Rt. 1 convenience store and left 10 employees without work for the foreseeable future.
Damariscotta Police Report
Damariscotta Police responded to 91 calls including motor vehicle stops, arrests, calls for service, etc. during this one-week period of time and report the following activity:
Nov. 23, Officer Jennifer Mitkus investigated a reported theft at a local business.
Newcastle Board Of Selectmen To Meet Dec. 30
The Newcastle Board of Selectmen will meet Thurs., Dec. 30 at 7 p.m. at the Newcastle Town Office in order to make up a Dec. 27 meeting cancelled due to the Dec. 26-27 blizzard.

Lincoln County Planner To DOT: Nest Could Be Moved
In a Dec. 22 letter to Gerry Audibert of the Dept. of Transportation, Lincoln County Planner Robert Faunce urged the DOT to “press forward” with selecting a route for a bypass around Wiscasset village.
