At 12:08 p.m. Thursday, the National Weather Service (NWS) issued a Tropical Storm Watch for coastal Lincoln County in regards to hurricane Earl, presently over 900 miles away to the south-southeast and churning up the Atlantic as category 4 storm with sustained winds of 145 miles per hour.
Mount Hunger Dispute Heats Up
In an impassioned and occasionally heated meeting Monday night, the Edgecomb Board of Selectmen outlined a plan of attack for the growing dispute over the Mount Hunger gravel pit site, addressed the progress of the new fire station, called for a public hearing on the Gateway 1 District development and honored the 250th anniversary of Lincoln County.

Shellfish Lovers Descend On Damariscotta For Record-Breaking Oyster Festival
Volunteers shucked 13,682 oysters Sunday, Sept. 26, at the tenth annual Pemaquid Oyster Festival – “all by hand,” Event Director Greg Latimer said.
“It was packed,” Schooner Landing co-owner Charlie Herrick said. “We had lines at the oyster bars from noon to 3:30, 4 o’clock.”

Sheepscot Road Closed Until October
The Dept. of Transportation (DOT) began a scheduled closure of Sheepscot Road Sept. 20. The road will remain closed to through traffic until Oct. 1, Public Information Officer Mark Latti said.
DOT crews are replacing a culvert about halfway between the road’s intersection with Rt. 1 and the village of Sheepscot, Latti said.
Breaking News – Waldoboro Man Pleads Guilty to Possession of Child Pornography
A 24-year-old Waldoboro man pleaded guilty on Sept. 30 in Lincoln County Superior Court to five counts of possession of sexually explicit material of minors under 12 years old.

Sheriff Todd Brackett reports the following:
Aug. 26, Deputy Todd Chilton took a burglary complaint in the Jefferson area. The complainant stated that sometime between Aug. 22-26, someone(s) kicked in his back door and stole a Husqvarna chainsaw – approximate value of $400 and a black/yellow Dewalt Sawzall – approximately value of $100.
