Lt. John A. Allen reports for the Wiscasset Police Department for the week of Aug. 31 through Sept. 6:
There were 57 incidents or requests for service – of these were: one theft, one animal problem, two alarms, one motorist assist, two harassments, one parking problem, six suspicious activity, one well-being check, three lost/found property, five traffic offenses (warnings), one citizen assist, four non reportable accidents, six agency assists, 18 property checks, one threatening and two business assists.

Whitefield Considers Five-Person Board
In a month’s time, Whitefield voters will decide whether or not to expand the board of selectmen from three to five members.
Tax Increase Whacks Whitefield Dairy Farmer
“I can’t tolerate a $10,000 tax bill. No way. You’re going to tax me off my land.”
The words of Whitefield’s largest dairy farmer to selectmen Monday evening cast a shadow on the vision of rural living touted in the town’s comprehensive plan: farms and farmlands, barns, silos, fields of corn and hay, glimpses of cows, and an “effective municipal government mindful of the need for limited property taxation.”
Wiscasset Voters Approve Eight Articles In Special Town Vote
In a special town vote Sept. 14, Wiscasset voters passed eight out of the nine articles in a warrant full of potential departmental closings and budget cutbacks. Going against both the Wiscasset Board of Selectmen and Budget Committee recommendations, voters voted ‘no’ on question two, an article to appropriate $78,671 for municipal planning. The article failed by three votes, 213-210.
Three-Car Accident Closes Gardiner Road In Wiscasset
A three-car accident in Wiscasset Sept. 13 closed Rt. 27 for more than a half hour while responders cleared the scene.
According to Wiscasset Police, the accident occurred when a 1998 Saturn driven by James Pepper, 65, of Brunswick crossed the centerline and hit the vehicles of Heidi Grover, 48, and Debra MacPhee, 43, both of Wiscasset.
