Citing a request from the town manager, Waldoboro Fire Chief Ernest Vannah submitted his resignation Jan. 14.
Effective immediately, Town Manager William Post appointed Deputy Chief Paul Smeltzer acting Fire Chief until the position can be filled. Post said he would advertize internally for the fire chief’s position and will wait for applications to be filed to the town.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Sun. advising residents to watch for “6 to 12 inches of snow accumulation by Sunday at midnight” in the Lincoln County area. Snowfall is forecast to begin Sun. morning with varying intensity through the afternoon, and then taper off Sun. evening, according to the NWS.
