With only Westport Island showing a close rejection, voters throughout the eight towns in the Sheepscot Valley RSU 12 resoundingly rejected a $25.8 million school budget at the polls Tuesday.
In contrast, the voters approved the Central Lincoln County School Budget 842 to 352, while the budget for MSAD 40 earned passage 737 to 561.
Contraband Keeps Corrections Officers Vigilant
A rash of trafficking in prison contraband cases at Two Bridges Regional Jail in last month’s grand jury indictments has been attributed at least in part to the visitation setup.
Last month alone the grand jury dealt with seven instances which occurred this year. “We are aggressive in seeking prosecution of any controlled substances,” Maj. Mark Anderson, assistant correctional administrator said this week.

Kennel Owner Guilty Of Animal Cruelty
Somerville kennel owner Fern Clark was found guilty on several counts of animal cruelty following closing arguments in Bath Superior Court Thursday, May 21. According to the court, Justice Andrew Horton found Clark guilty of cruelty to animals on 15 misdemeanor counts (class D), while dismissing five felony counts and one misdemeanor count.

While recent Center for Disease Control statistics showed a slight decline in the national rate, preterm birth continues to be a serious problem throughout the U.S. March of Dimes statistics (which appeared on their website several years ago) revealed that Maine reported the second highest increase in the nation in their rate of preterm births between 1992 and 2002.

Boothbay Man Reported Missing
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance in locating a missing Boothbay man.
Franklin Poe, age 54, of Boothbay was reported missing by his wife on Wed., April 1. Mr. Poe had been last seen on March 28 when he left his home in his pickup truck. While he is unemployed and has become withdrawn from his family recently, according to his family and friends, there is no indication that Poe is suicidal, according to the LCSO.
County EMA Briefs Officials On Flu Preparedness
Lincoln County so far has had no known cases of the swine flu, but EMA Director Tim Pellerin briefed county department heads Thursday on emergency preparedness.

Bicyclist’s Mission Tallies 191,000 Miles, So Far
The Rev. Johannes (Hans) Erich Myors has been bicycling around the country for 16 years, and has clocked in more than 191,000 miles in that time. His latest sojourn, begun in March, brought him under the good graces of the Carpenter’s Boat Shop in Bristol for a layover on May 21.
