Boothbay Region Boards Nix School Unit Plan
Selectmen and school boards of Boothbay, Boothbay Harbor, Southport and Edgecomb voted last week to recommend a no vote Tues., Jan. 27 on school consolidation.
Wiscasset Board Denies Young’s Point Abatements
Wiscasset selectmen, acting as assessors Tuesday, denied 2008 abatements by a 2-2 vote for four Young’s Point properties which have more than doubled in value.
Chairman David Nichols, Jr. abstained from voting after Atty. Edward Dardis, representing the property owners, advised him to recuse himself from that portion of the proceedings to avoid the appearance of conflict of interest, since Nichols owns property on Young’s Point.

National Weather Service (NWS) reports from Bristol and Jefferson measured 4.5 inches of snowfall accumulation at both locations as of 9:28 a.m. on Sun., and snow continues to blanket the area at the time of this posting.

Breaking News — Alcohol Charges Stem From Investigation of Fatal Hit & Run
Lincoln County Sheriffs Deputies arrested 20-year-old Thomas C. Nolet of Gloucester, Mass. on Jan. 25 and charged him with furnishing a place for minors to consume alcohol. The arrest was a result of the ongoing investigation into a fatal motor vehicle incident that occurred in Jefferson on Sept. 20, 2008, according to the Lincoln County Sheriffs Office (LCSO). In that incident 20-year-old Loren St. Cyr was struck by two vehicles as he walked on the North Clary Road in the Town of Jefferson. One of the vehicles involved has not been located, and its operator is unknown.

Drug Bust Truck Acquired By Town Of Waldoboro
The town of Waldoboro accepted the ownership of a 1998 GMC Sierra seized as part of a drug investigation last fall. The Waldoboro Board of Selectmen approved the transfer of the asset to the town during their regularly scheduled meeting on Jan. 13.

Breaking News – Winter Storm Watch Issued, Up to 6 Inches of Snow for Sat.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Storm Watch in advance of a storm expected to arrive in Lincoln County late Sat. and continue with snowfall through Sun. afternoon. The possibility for 6 inches of accumulation is possible with this storm, according to the NWS, but other forecasts have been a bit more conservative at around 2-4 inches in total. There is also an NWS advisory for “very minor” coastal flooding during the high tide on Sun. morning due to moon tides and the storm surge.
Bremen Residents Hit By Ponzi Scheme Pushing Forward
