To the Editor:
On Jan. 31, 70 adults and kids spent the afternoon sledding, snow shoeing and making snowmen and s’mores to raise much-needed funds for fuel assistance.
High Rate Of Underage Drinking
Lincoln County has one of the highest rates of underage drinking in Maine. Consequently, many parents are looking for ways to reduce underage access to alcohol. One of the easiest ways to do this is to keep track of the alcohol in your own home. If it’s been depleted or is kept in a conspicuous place, it may be leading to consumption by your teen.
Thank You Family Holiday Wishes
I would like to write a letter of thanks to the Family Holiday Wishes program. I am a single mother of two and work full time, but I was out of work for three months around Christmas.
Cockamamie, Ludicrous, Nonsensical
“Cockamamie:” “ludicrous, nonsensical”, American Heritage Dictionary.
The Newcastle Selectmen have apparently decided not to put the proposed Village Center zoning changes to March Town Meeting. That’s a sound decision, but probably won’t end the matter.
Now More Than Ever
Healthy Kids has been serving Lincoln County families since 1985 with parent education, home visiting, and school-based programs whose mission is to strengthen families and prevent child abuse. The current budget environment has significantly impacted Healthy Kids and led to restructuring and staffing changes.
Horses On The Highway
The fire chief’s horse/truck collision in nearby Edgecomb, brought back a sad memory, with lessons I learned, and hope I can relay to as many drivers as possible.
Let’s Not Lose What We Already Have
Concerning the classification of Mr. Goldenson’s property in Bremen in last week’s paper I say ‘caveat emptor’.
Mr. Goldenson’s property – formally of a maritime use (remember Zahn) is bordered on both southern and northern sides by – surprise – maritime use. Didn’t he see the mud flats when he bought it?
Thanks For Dinner
On Tues., Jan. 6, the entire Bristol Fire Department was invited to dinner at the Samoset Restaurant. We would like to thank Erin Reeves and Chad McKernan for making such a wonderful gesture. We all had great meals and the service was excellent.
Supporting Lincoln County’s Dedicated Volunteers
To the Editor:
Volunteers are the essence, lifeblood and a living gift to non-profit organizations throughout Lincoln County.
75-0
According to the state’s records, since 1990, there have been 75 occasions involving the use of deadly force by Maine law enforcement, sometimes but not always, with deadly results.
Correct And Clarify Edgecomb Article
I must correct and clarify that portion of the Edgecomb article addressing the snow plowing issue of Spring Hill Farm Rd. (“Edgecomb to require Shore Road excavation,” LCN, 1/15/09) As written, the article is confusing and misleading.
ONE FIGHT AT A TIME
It’s nice to see that our Legislators are serious about addressing the problems facing the state.
Blowing Smoke On Chimney Sweep Story
To the Editor:
I had a serious sense of déjà vu reading your Christmas and New Year’s issues, for both featured one-sourced articles on the same local chimney sweep.
It’s Not Surprising
To the Editor:
I think it was in 1993 when a law was passed that limited our choices of what health care insurance Maine people could buy. Since then the cost of health insurance premiums has steadily gone up. Our state government has regulated health insurance companies to such a degree; most won’t do business with us. Part of what drives costs is competition, or the lack of it.
