I would like to respond to Galen Rose’s letter “A final word on intelligent design” in the Sept. 29 edition.
ANTI-DEBATE
Need an antidote to Monday’s debate?
Come to The Lincoln County News candidates forums Thursday, Oct. 6 and Thursday, Oct. 13.
From the Legislature Building a better state of Maine
I love the state of Maine. Ours is a state of vast untapped potential, created by the natural resources that have fueled our traditional industries, as well as our citizens’ storied ingenuity, artistry, and strong work ethic.
A Final Word on Intelligent Design
This is written in response to Lynnie Sedgwick’s letter of Sept. 15 titled “God did not want humans to be his puppets,” which she wrote in response to my letter of Aug. 18.
Thoughts on Election Day
How does one vote when one does not like either of the candidates? Luckily, this is a non-issue. After all, we are not electing friends or lovers, but government officials and constitutional representatives. One does not have to like a candidate one votes for.
Local Centenarians
With the 100th birthdays of two local residents, Martha Boggs and Woody Verge, it got me to reflecting about the people I have been privileged to know who have also reached 100 years, all remarkable, each in their own way. I believe people are living longer due to medical breakthroughs and our quality of life.
FRIDAY NIGHT
It’s Friday night and you want to go out. What should you do?
Guidelines in Choosing a Representative
In her letter “The lesser of two evils,” of Sept. 15, Jarryl Larson asks us (four times) to consider a candidate’s “education-religion background” as a major criterion in choosing who is most worthy of our votes.
God Did Not Want Humans to Be His Puppets
I write this letter in response to Galen Rose’s letter of Aug. 18 (“The intelligently designed mosquito?”) which he wrote in response to my letter of Aug. 11 (“Intelligent design”).
From the Legislature Pre-K Pays Long-Term Dividends for Students and the Economy
Our children are the future, not only for our individual families, but as part of the next generation of Mainers in which we place our hopes for tomorrow’s world. Our schools, along with parents, are charged with preparing them for that world.
Rising Tide Election
We ask Rising Tide members for their vote in the upcoming Rising Tide co-op board election. Ballots will be accepted over the next four weeks.
EMBRACING SCRUTINY
The Wiscasset Board of Selectmen and Wiscasset Town Manager Marian Anderson deserve credit for their response to a highly public examination of whether the town needs a town manager or a five-member board of selectmen, or whether a different, less expensive model might work.
From the Legislature Ranked-choice voting – a straightforward election reform
How simple and straightforward is ranked-choice voting, Question 5 on the November ballot?
Yes on 4
My name is Sumner “Ricky” Richards IV and I own S. Fernald’s Country Store, a small family-run sandwich shop located in downtown Damariscotta.
