This is an attempt to give a voice to two groups of fellow human beings who cannot speak for themselves.
A Profound, Common Issue
I’ve written letters to the editor on a variety of subjects in the past, urging folks to vote, offering commentary on issues, extending pleas to come and stand on the bridge for a variety of reasons and causes. Rallying support through an occasional public letter has been a way of speaking to many rather than just a few.
INDEPENDENCE DAY
On any given day, you could be forgiven for not wanting to get out of bed.
MAJORITY RULES
The kids will be going back to school in another month or so.
Don’t Ruin Our Village
Looking back, it’s hard to imagine that anyone could have wanted Route 1 in Maine to look like Route 1 in Massachusetts, but it’s understandable if some people felt that a wider road is a safer road and a faster road is a more convenient road.
Remembering Life During World War II
I read with interest Arlene Cole’s article in the May 30 issue of the LCN “Growing up in World War II.” Her story brought back memories of that special time in my life, growing up in Wilmington, Del., during World War II.
FORWARD, REALLY
It’s graduation week in Lincoln County and we here at The Lincoln County News add our collective congratulations and well wishes to others already extended to the members of the Class of 2013.
The Next Step In The RSU 12 Budget Approval Process
The Sheepscot Valley RSU 12 budget as recommended by the RSU 12 Board of Directors was approved at the Regional Budget Meeting on June 8. The next step in the approval process is to have the final amount be voted on by referendum. The date for the referendum vote is June 28, but absentee ballots are also now available at RSU 12 member-town town offices. There are three articles on the ballot.
A Witch Hunt With No Obvious Benefit To The Town
I’m amazed that Peter Drum and the selectmen of Newcastle have taken it upon themselves to harass and badger Newcastle Center owners Paul and Debbie Sidelinger to shut down nearly half of their apartment/business building.
Slum And Blight For Downtown Waldoboro
To the Editor:
At the June 11 referendum voting in Waldoboro, 324 voters chose to adopt a “Slum and Blight Declaration for a portion of the Downtown Village as recommended in the Downtown Master Plan.”
Wiscasset Budget Workshop July 2
To the Editor:
The comments below are my views alone and are not intended to represent either the views of the Wiscasset Board of Selectmen or any other selectman.
WHY WORRY, SUMMER’S HERE
When you are packing the family car for vacation, and you are down to those last frantic final moments before you leave the house, have you ever noticed the look on your dog’s face?
Governor ‘No’ Needs To Go
I was appalled last week when I learned of Governor Paul LePage’s vulgar personal attacks on Troy Jackson. I can certainly understand why Democrats are upset by his crude behavior, though sadly we’ve all come to expect it by now. What I simply don’t understand is why Republicans aren’t positively outraged, and vigorously speaking out to reign in this abusive and apparently mentally unbalanced individual who sits at the top of their party ticket.
Please Support Public Education
I am writing to ask my fellow voters for their support when voting on June 28 for the SVRSU 12 education budget. It is a lot of money, but please consider that this budget is supporting eight towns with approximately five buildings.
