Speak to Chris Johnson and you will be convinced, as so many have, that Chris is the best choice for State Senator in Senate District 20. At a time when partisanship is sadly high in Maine, Chris is the kind of fellow that will listen to and work with anyone. He is bright, hard working, analytical and will look for the best common sense solutions to help solve the problems we have in Maine.
This Is A Loss That Should Not Happen
I am one of the saddened members of Nobleboro Grange #369. The closing of this grange has been heart-wrenching for all who cared. We tried so many ways to keep it going – to get new members and the older members to turn out for meetings. It was not to be and the doors were closed on Dec. 23 (2009)after 108 years of existence.
LePage Offers Best Hope
As Waterville Mayor, Paul Mayor LePage’s public record of successful service with a politically diverse constituency shows he is a true leader and not just another political hack. Perhaps more important, however, is his great credibility as a successful businessman.
WORTHY
On March 23, 2004, Bristol residents convened their annual town meeting at the Bristol Consolidated School. It was one of the better-attended town meetings in recent history.
REALLY, REALLY GOOD
Small town living allows us to enjoy the flavors of community on a regular basis. You could live in a big city, as many current Lincoln County residents have, and never even know your neighbor’s name.
No Reason To Lie Now
This campaign season I have read many letters based on half-truths or exaggerations and usually figured they were just partisan bickering, but when Larry Grimard implies that my wife (Lisa Miller), a legislator for the last six years, is not telling the truth then it is time to speak up. (“Not all true,” LCN, Page 11, 10/14/10)
In Support Of Jon McKane
I write in support of Jon McKane’s District 51 candidacy for the Maine House of Representatives.
Who Is The Other?
There has been a lot of disturbing news this election year: obstructed and compromised health care reform; increasingly vocal talk of privatization of social security benefits; talk of even eliminating social security; or at least adding two more years to the start up of the benefits – from 65 to 67; the funneling of billions of dollars from corporate funds into political campaigns; youth suicides and gay bullying. It goes on and on….
We Need Dean Scontras
“Tax the rich” makes for a great sound bite as headlined by the liberal mainstream media. In fact, the top 10 percent of all earners in this country pay an enormous 70 percent of all federal taxes by their business activities that grow our economy and increase our standard of living.
SAME SEX, SAME ISSUES
There is never a good time to start an unpleasant conversation. Anyone who has ever had to be the bearer of bad news knows that.
A Wonderful Tribute
We would like to thank all who were involved in the incredibly successful supper and yard sale benefit for the late Mikie Simmons Aug. 28. Although the outcome inevitably was not what we had hoped, it was a wonderful tribute to Mikie.
Facts Don’t Necessarily Feel Good
I’m writing in response to Mr. Michael Uhl’s letter “Send Democrats to Augusta and Washington” which appeared in the Sept. 9 edition of the LCN. I was especially taken by his statement “folks paying their fair share.”
Absolutely Cannot Withstand Another Four Years
To the Editor:Having been involved in politics and having attended party conventions, I learned two things. Conventions are free drinks and food at a candidate’s hospitality suites. Party platforms are a joke and no candidate adheres to them. Paul LePage is no more committed to the Republican platform than Libby Mitchell is to the Democrat […]
OUTSIDE THE BOX
We give Thomas Steele-Maley credit; if he’s right, and no one will know for years exactly how right or wrong he is, he has dreamed up a model for a 21st-century education.
