This campaign season I have read many letters based on half-truths or exaggerations and usually figured they were just partisan bickering, but when Larry Grimard implies that my wife (Lisa Miller), a legislator for the last six years, is not telling the truth then it is time to speak up. (“Not all true,” LCN, Page 11, 10/14/10)
In Support Of Jon McKane
I write in support of Jon McKane’s District 51 candidacy for the Maine House of Representatives.
Who Is The Other?
There has been a lot of disturbing news this election year: obstructed and compromised health care reform; increasingly vocal talk of privatization of social security benefits; talk of even eliminating social security; or at least adding two more years to the start up of the benefits – from 65 to 67; the funneling of billions of dollars from corporate funds into political campaigns; youth suicides and gay bullying. It goes on and on….
We Need Dean Scontras
“Tax the rich” makes for a great sound bite as headlined by the liberal mainstream media. In fact, the top 10 percent of all earners in this country pay an enormous 70 percent of all federal taxes by their business activities that grow our economy and increase our standard of living.
SLIGHTLY HOPEFUL
As much as we are looking forward to a breather from the battle for the political reins of our Great State, we are only slightly hopefully that the grit and competitiveness the candidates have all shown on the campaign trail will actually translate to action once the dust settles.
Only Eliot Cutler
For a moderate Democrat like me, or for a Republican or Independent who thinks we need to change the culture of Augusta, the choice is now very clear.
Rings True
A couple weeks ago, I suddenly became aware that my wedding ring had fallen off. A thorough but fruitless search of the house and cars meant the haystack just got way bigger and the “needle” proportionally way smaller. I’m sure some readers have had this happen so I need not describe my feelings at that moment.
A Real Sincere Young Man
If you haven’t met Chris Johnson you have lost an opportunity to speak to a real sincere young man, running for the Maine Senate, District #20.
Bruce MacDonald – The Voice For All Of Us
Now more than ever we need the common sense, energetic, analytical and independently thinking mind of Bruce MacDonald to help lead the way.
It’s (Still) The Economy
“It’s the economy, stupid:” a phrase used by the 1992 Clinton campaign. Could there be any phrase more appropriate today here in Maine?
Creating The So-Called Welfare Generation
It is this country’s belief that if you subsidize something, it will eventually get better. Does anyone believe the stimulus was for the poor?
A PECKING ORDER OF BUMS
Most people are convinced politicians are out of touch. It is easy to believe big wheels like the President and the Senators and Congressmen don’t relate to the average man/woman. In light of the amount of money it takes to run for a federal office, we concede the point.
Borrowed Money Should Not Be Used For Road Maintenance
I want to thank Ellen Dickens for her letter highlighting my vote against the gigantic bond package of 2009. I’m proud of it – it’s not easy voting against hordes of lobbyists and special interests all demanding more taxpayer money. (“Jon McKane voting record,” Page 4)
Many Friends And Neighbors
On Sunday, September 19th, a Turkey Dinner was held at Meenahga Grange Hall in Waldoboro to benefit the Waldoboro Food Pantry. The benefit dinner, sponsored by the Waldoboro Democratic Committee, raised $905, with all proceeds going directly to the Waldoboro Food Pantry.
