Anyone in the business of responding to emergencies knows that seven minutes can literally mean the difference between life and death.
Just An Observation
I was driving past Puffin Stop on Saturday, and noticed gas went from $2.81 to $2.89 a gallon, up eight-cents over night.

It Is Time To Pass A Budget
To the Editor:
The vote about consolidation has come and gone. It is time for the voters in Sheepscot Valley RSU 12 to pass a budget for our new school system.
If People Want A Witch Burning, They Should Examine Themselves

“Milena, who requested her last name not be published, adopted a mother and baby. The mother was going to be put down due to an untreated knee problem.
Neglect Is Different From Abuse
To the Editor:
I’m afraid that Doug Wright must have misinterpreted portions of my last letter to the editor, as it was not intended to be in the least condescending or patronizing.
GOING AND GONE
Well, we won’t have Mary Bowers to kick around anymore. Looks like we won’t have Arthur Faucher to dust up, either.
Town managers and municipal superintendents walk a particularly fine line because they are responsible to the public and they usually serve at the whims of a board. They are the public face of their organization; the front line, rarely getting credit for good decisions and usually fielding an inordinate amount of grief for the bad ones.

Kudos To Sen. Trahan For Free Saltwater Registry Bill
I would like to extend my gratitude to Sen. David Trahan (R-Waldoboro) for all his hard work during the past year creating and introducing a bill that would have implemented a free saltwater fishing license in Maine.
Make Maine A Safer Place
To the Editor:
Recently in Gardiner, four kittens were found in a box on a snow bank, frozen to each other and barely alive. Thanks to Good Samaritans and the animal shelter, they received veterinary care. However, many less fortunate animals do not receive help in time.
Erastus Foote Anyone?
Dear Lincoln County News Staff and Readers,
A Chicago researcher, I’m currently working on a project that includes Erastus Foote Jr., born in Wiscasset in 1851. After moving to Chicago in 1868, he opened the Dearborn Foundry Co. in 1873. Foote was president of this Chicago business until he retired and returned to Wiscasset in 1914. Upon his death in 1932, he was buried in Wiscasset. The Wood-Foote house remains standing in the town.
Am I Alone?
To the Editor:
Is it just me – or do others feel appalled and violated when, in reading a library book, they come upon comments and underlines on these sacred pages?
A Glaring Omission Of Diversity
To the Editor:
Whereas I am very happy that the Whitefield School is celebrating diversity day by exposing our kids to examples of various other cultures, cooking, religion, and ethnic customs, I couldn’t help but notice the glaring omission of sexual minorities.
A Word Of Thanks
Last Sunday morning one of our Boat Shop apprentices was in a bad car accident at the Bristol Area Library. As she drove down the Old County Road on that snowy Sunday morning, she found that she was unable to stop with the icy, snowy conditions, and slid out into Rt. 130, unfortunately striking the oncoming snowplow. Both vehicles were totaled. It was a sad morning.
