As most of us make our way gleefully through the Christmas season, as we shop and set up our trees and shop and string lights and shop and celebrate with family and friends and shop and watch our favorite Christmas movies, it is easy to forget about those perhaps somewhat less giddy about the season than ourselves.

LA choirs shine: Kudos to Lincoln Academy Choir Director Beth Preston for a fabulous concert on Sunday, Dec. 10. Preston led the LA Concert Choir and the school’s Lincolnaires advanced vocal ensemble in the “Sounds of the Season” concert that took place at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Newcastle.

In the new year, we will likely be asked to vote on a series of options regarding the future of the Bristol Mills Dam and fish ladder, which are both in need of significant repair and severely limit the passage of alewives upstream. I’m writing to encourage residents to become as educated on the subject as possible before any votes are cast.

Kids need a kiln: Whitefield Elementary School’s new art teacher, Hollie Hilton, has hit the ground running as far as making positive changes in art instruction at the school. I learned recently that Hilton started up a DonorsChoose fundraising campaign for a digital kiln for her students.

A Message to Whitefield Residents about Whitefield Elementary School
The education forum: In mid-November, scores of Whitefield residents gathered at the school to widely discuss education for children in the town; a big thanks to all who participated. At the meeting’s conclusion, the “education forum” recorded a number of outcomes describing much that’s good and not-so-good at Whitefield Elementary School, including oral testimony from parents. All the material has been saved, is being carefully reviewed by the district, and will form the basis for a plan to move forward.

A Nordone Christmas: Damariscotta artist and musician Kathi Nordone has been busy lately. She recently concluded a series of performance dates at The Bradley Inn in New Harbor. Then she moved into artist mode and operated a booth selling her original Christmas cards at the Central Lincoln County YMCA’s Holiday Bazaar.
