I’d like to thank the many people and organizations who made the Fish Ladder Restoration Festival a great success. Special appreciation goes to our sponsors, who provided much-needed support for the festival.
THERE MUST BE A BETTER TIME
Many coaches, competitors, family members and friends spent the bulk of their Monday holiday working.
FREEDOM ISN’T FREE
It comes dressed in the trappings of summer and smells like a barbecue and suntan lotion, but really, Memorial Day is the most somber of our national holidays.
Gone But Not Forgotten
Please publish this letter as an acknowledgement of the Weymouth House’s beautiful work of providing inexpensive homemade meals to the local gentry almost every Friday at noon.
Anything Is Possible
On Sunday, May 12, I visited my parents’ graves only to find two white antique urns missing. The urns had been in place for at least 30 years in the West Bristol Cemetery in Walpole. It’s hard to imagine that anyone would steal something from a cemetery, but owing to the state of our world today, I guess anything is possible.
God Bless America
Another three-day weekend coming up but I would remind all your readers this Monday is also Memorial Day. The day that we honor all those brave men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the defense of our country.
Response to Bryan Benner
I must express disagreement with Mr. Benner’s recent letter. I think he takes religious discourse into very dangerous territory and must be opposed.
Realtor Ethics?
Like many LCN readers, I’ve been saddened to read over the past few months the tragic and avoidable story of the historic little Curley house (21 Pond Rd.) in Damariscotta Mills, whose fate seems to rest with new out of state owners who wish to demolish it in favor of building and moving into a brand new house. Never mind that the house was built before our country was founded, or that it resides close to protected Bald Eagle nesting habitat.
RAIN DANCE, ANYONE?
At the time of this writing, the forecast calls for several days of on-again, off-again showers into the weekend. We really need it. If we are in for a sprinkle here or there, it is not going to help us much.
Full-Time School Nurse Needed
There have been numerous articles in The Lincoln County News concerning the budget cuts at Great Salt Bay School.
LIST SCHMIST
We have been snickering to ourselves around the office, ever since careercast.com issued its latest list of the best and worst jobs in America April 24.
Memorial Day 2013
Two of us, Trudi Hodkins and I, had made arrangements for the past several years for what we thought was becoming an expected traditional Memorial Day observance at the Jefferson Veterans’ Memorial.
Wounded Warriors
On April 13, the American Legion in Damariscotta put on a benefit for Wounded Warriors. On behalf of the American Legion Post 42, I would like to thank our community for all the help in making our dance benefit such a success.
Quilts of Valor
The Lincoln County Quilters would like to say thank you for the wonderful article you published in The Lincoln County News about the Quilts of Valor presentation at the American Legion Hall in Damariscotta on April 7.
