When I became a member of the Newcastle Fire Company in 1983, Paul Bryant was fire chief and Clayton Huntley was First Assistant Chief. At that time we had two meetings a month, the first was a business meeting and the second was training.

Bremen town meeting is next Sat., March 28. I urge all voters to attend.

My last letter addressed two warrant articles that could conceivably alter the waterfront and the commercial fisheries district. It seems that one article, 52, has been re-drafted and will be added as an amendment to the warrant – right under the wire. This article is particularly pernicious. It has the potential to destroy bit by bit the commercial fisheries district.

I am a concerned citizen who cares about public safety. I live just north of Pine View Restaurant, one of the busiest intersections in our region. I sit at my window and watch the traffic coming north on Rt. 1 and on Main Street coming north out of town with no headlights on.

Want to know where all the decent jobs went? Go down to the store and read the “Made In _____” labels. Want to know how to get them back?

Publish a list of tariffs to be levied on imports and watch the merchants scurry around for U.S. made products to fill the pipeline.

Here’s a trend no one predicted: pregnancy. Stand in a grocery checkout line and see the headlines about which celebrity is pregnant; which one has a new baby.

A livable wage is the level that is estimated for a household to maintain a basic needs budget and be self-sufficient from any benefits or assistance.

Dear Sir/Madam,

All four of you should be embarrassed that you voted for the pork-bloated joke masquerading as a “stimulus” bill. The Congressional Budget Office says that it will not do what Congress proclaims it will. The president changes his tune almost daily as to how many jobs it will create. It is a waste of taxpayers and borrowers money.

This is an open letter to the citizens of Alna. The reason for this letter is to introduce myself and tell you I am running for the Third Selectmen’s position in our town.

Perhaps someone of my generation will enjoy my thoughts.

You are never going to believe this but I was out walking with a friend Feb. 15, and as I entered my driveway my two maple trees are all in bud with branches.

Growing up in our beloved Lincoln County, I enjoyed the small-town atmosphere, the warm friendliness of our people, and the willingness to go out of one’s way to help a neighbor that so typifies what a “State of Mainer” is.

In the manner of our much-admired former Sheriff Bill Carter, Todd Brackett and Lt. Mike Murphy have maintained that tradition of “going the extra mile” to help a fellow citizen. This letter to the editor is to thank them for that.

Hundreds of people have passively viewed the Northern Hawk Owl from the berm of Route 130 near the Bristol Consolidated School recently.

Thank you to Lucy Martin for her wonderful support in helping me try to reach out to Whitefield’s military folks (“Whitefield Bicentennial Quilt square to honor troops,” page 1B, LCN 2/19/09). I know that her article means a lot to others, be they from our town or not, for in remembering Whitefield’s troops, we remember their other brothers and sisters in harm’s way.
