Lincoln County EMA Chief Tim Pellerin’s passion for his profession has brought untold benefits to the county, grant monies received, training programs created, policies adopted; all of which has helped weave Lincoln County fire companies into an even more cohesive force than they were before he arrived in 2005.
Happy Thanksgiving
I noticed your story a couple of weeks ago in the online edition about delays for your subscribers outside of Maine. (“Post Office delays leave seasonal residents News-less,” LCN, 12/23/10, Page 1).
We Should All Be Grateful
To use a bad phrase I am in “shock and awe” about the loss of my house and belongings on Jan. 12. I was attaching the plow and stuck in the snow by the barn and, in only a few minutes, the fire got a good start and it was impossible to get inside the house.
Proud Of The Volunteer Men And Women We Have
Wow, what a storm (Jan. 13)! With weather like this, I am glad that I live and work where I do.
A GREAT PLACE TO LIVE
Almost anyone in the Twin Villages knows or knows of the Lee boys, Zander and his brother Whitney. They grew up here. They went to school here. If one or the other may have been rambunctious at times in their younger days, they both grew into upstanding family and businessmen.
Simple Solutions
For what it’s worth here are my thoughts on the Wiscasset bypass; forget the bypass and do these simple solutions:
1.) Stop ALL on street parking in Wiscasset.
Secularization
I can understand why Doctor Falconer appreciates the “revelry and lawlessness of Saturnalia,” especially in light of his indifference to the secularization of Christ’s Mass. So have Saturnalia on the solstice, and there will be no confusion. (Say…wasn’t Kwanzaa supposed to have solved this problem?)
Does Not Portend Good Things To Come
Governor-Elect LePage will be sworn Jan. 5 and I presume he would have us believe his order that there be none of the customary inaugural whoop-de-doo is a signal confirming he’ll be turning over every stone in his effort to cure the state’s budget woes.
Reflections on Christmas
Recent letters to the editor in the Dec. 30 and Jan. 6 The Lincoln County News contain emotionally charged brouhahas about whether to “keep Christ out of Christmas” (H. Falconer) or “keep Christ in Christmas” (M. Bourland and R. Crabtree). Their thoughts on the subject are interesting, provocative and sometimes absurd.
Asking For Budget Cuts
The handwriting is on the wall. The economy is horrible. Federal and state budgets are going to be sliced, which will have a major impact on small towns. Newcastle’s administrative budget has exploded in the last few years and is out of line with other small towns its size.
UNILATERAL ACTION
On Jan. 13 the RSU 12 School Board shocked the Wiscasset community and nearly everyone else who had been watching, by voting to “immediately” and “permanently” remove the term “Redskin” from any and all schools within the district.
OUR OWN TRADITION
For some reason, we have received quite a few comments, pro and con, written and verbal, regarding our placement of Rev. Kevin Haj’s Christmas message on the front page of The Lincoln County News Dec. 23, 2010 edition.
I Believe
The premise of “The Polar Express” is to believe in the magic of the season – I believe! I believe!
The Happiest Man I Know
It is Christmas Day as I write this letter. My family is scattered far and wide and I live alone (by choice) in Jefferson. Last night, by the light of the near full moon and the fresh white snow on the field behind my house, I swear I could see Santa’s sleigh zoom across the sky headed South with a tremendous load of gifts.
