In August 1995, I visited my dad, Jim Lester (then age 72), and his wife who were living on Westport Island. We took a road (and boat) trip and one day hiked on Monhegan Island.
Proud And Grateful
On Nov. 6 a majority of Mainers, including 52 percent of voters in Lincoln County, voted to allow the state of Maine to issue marriage licenses to same sex couples.
Before you say ‘not mine’
I am writing to commend Sherwood Olin and Kim Fletcher on last week’s article, “Dog shooting sparks Facebook furor.” Their reporting made the details of a complete situation understandable, helped to educate readers, and challenged us all the examine our own reactions.
Commentary – Hurricane relief – mission accomplished
The organizers of the local hurricane relief project returned home Sunday night, after a successful and rewarding weekend delivering supplies in New York.
Home Is Where The Heart Is
A reminder to everyone enjoying their Thanksgiving dinner that when you say a prayer of thanks for all your blessings, please add a prayer for all our young men and women who cannot be there with you. Yes, I know we all feel that loss and in some cases, more than others.
What Is Best For All Maine Families
Much has been written lately about same sex marriage and I would like to strive to establish the bottom line of absolute truth. “In the beginning God created…” This gives our Almighty Sovereign God the right and authority to make the rules.
MARKING TIME
It’s only fitting the clock stopped this week.
Damariscotta’s historic town clock, famously housed in the steeple of the First Baptist Church on Bristol Road and Main Street, ran down and stopped Tuesday morning, Oct. 16 at 9:50 a.m.
Preserve Landowner Rights In Jefferson
I am writing in response to the article concerning the Goose Hill Road in Jefferson. According to the article on Sept. 27 by Shlomit Auciello, the Town government wants to take control of the land 25 feet from the center of the road outwards on each side without compensation to landowners. (“Jefferson citizens air Goose Hill Road issues,” Page 1)
The Value Of A Home Town Police Department
I committed a serious crime in my old hometown once.
It was about 60 years ago.
SUPPORT FOR THE CAUSE
Who doesn’t like breasts?
Seriously? Do you know anybody who has ever said anything like “I do not like looking, seeing, or thinking about breasts.”
No Guarantee Of Freedoms Without Freedom Of Speech
Noam Chomsky, professor at MIT, said: “If we don’t believe in freedom of expression for people we despise, we don’t believe in it at all.”
Teachers Make All The Difference
As a parent involved in building the new Great Salt Bay School playground, I helped organize Playground Planning Day Sept. 28.
ENJOY
Wes Page made the trip from Portage Lake to Damariscotta specifically for the Damariscotta Pumpkinfest Weigh off Sunday.
For those keeping score, Portage Lake is roughly 240 miles from Damariscotta.
Another ‘Bottom Line Of Absolute Truth’
I am writing in response to a letter written by David Ricker, which was published in last week’s LCN.
