Candidate’s night last Thursday was quite an experience for me. It is far different being on the candidate side of the table.

Thank you so much for your recent article on my friend and former Berklee College of Music instructor Charles Chapman the Guitar Man. He is not only impressive musically, but his humor and generosity of spirit are the qualities that brought the subjects he taught at Berklee to life.

From my first time in the Legislature, in 1996, I have been frustrated by our antiquated tax system and the seeming lack of Legislative will to fix something that is no longer working.

This letter is to encourage a positive voter turn out on June 8. Not only are there important candidates to elect, deciding a DOT bond issue that potentially affects the Wiscasset waterfront is paramount.

I grew up in Louisville, Ky., one of the first cities to have fluoridated water. Nonetheless, I spent the entire summer before high school in the dentist’s chair. My mother was afraid of dentists and didn’t take me. My father was only home on weekends. Dental care is still not part of many cultures, nor is it affordable to many.

I’m a firm believer in one generation passing down whatever wisdom and truth they have learned, fought for and attained, to the next group of budding adults.

It’s a bit sad to see it go, but the decision to ban the practice of throwing candy during the Damariscotta Memorial Day parade is probably a good one, although less so we think, than for the reasons of cavity fighting or safety.

I want to urge all Bristol voters to turn out June 8 and vote down the school budget.

Can we afford to pay the state of Maine the new tax on auto repair labor? That could happen, along with 100 other petty things, like even a clown for the kids party. With mechanic labor rate at $70 to $95 and auto body and paint at $44 for each hour, that’s quite a chunk of change you will be paying the state.
