Barack Obama has run a carefully crafted campaign over the past four years. Since the media chose him as their candidate at the 2004 Democratic Convention.

For the past many months, whenever I have opened a newspaper I have been constantly confronted – and confounded – with the ‘latest breaking news’ concerning either the faltering-then-recovering-then-once-again-faltering- economy and/or constant news stories regarding the candidates and their supporters and detractors in both the statewide and national elections.

Winter will be with us soon, which for me means driving back and forth to Augusta.

I am honored by the trust the people of Maine have placed in me. During my years of service in the United States Senate, I have always been guided by the best traditions of the State of Maine: independence, moderation, and hard work.

There is no easy answer, as some might have you believe, to Maine’s healthcare problem. For someone to say that one plan or idea would fix the situation simply shows there is not an understanding of the depth of the issues here in Maine or in this country.
